Featured Project: Connectpoint's Digital Signage Guides Washington D.C. Bus Riders

Goleta, California-based Connectpoint, a sister company of CHK America, recently installed multiple units of its Connectpoint Digital Bus Stops for the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority in Washington D.C.

CHK America is a maker of static digital signage that it sells to the public transportation industry across the United States. In early October, it spun out its digital products division into a separate entity: Connectpoint.

Connectpoint’s solar-powered digital bus stop products were deployed on some of the WMATA’s busiest transit service lines. In addition to providing real-time bus information, customized alert messaging is available so riders can adjust their journey quickly and make smart choices based on the company’s easy-to-read, “ePaper” digital bus stops, it says.

“We are always looking at ways to improve customer experience and through Connectpoint’s ePaper Digital Bus Stops we can now broadcast a variety of content including next departure, service alerts, maps and custom messages,” says Metro senior program manager, Scottie Borders. “Not only will this be a better experience for our riders, these digital bus stops have low power requirements and allow us to power signs without a connection to the grid.”

“Metro is notable for its transit initiatives when it comes to new customer amenities,” adds Rick Wood, CEO and president of Connectpoint. “Sustainable, easy-to-read, real-time digital bus stops are in line with what today’s transit rider wants and needs to navigate their trip.”

Also in early October, CHK America—which is co-located with Connectpoint—relocated its headquarters to Goleta from nearby Santa Barbara. The two companies say the newly-designed office and warehouse space enables them to accelerate growth in software engineering, manufacturing and design services.

“By moving our warehouse from Ventura to Goleta and combining corporate headquarters with manufacturing we believe this will streamline manufacturing and our sales/marketing resources will be leveraged more efficiently,” says Wood.
