Stow, Ohio-based Mactac, a manufacturer of pressure sensitive films, shares this project in which its material was chosen for a large outdoor display in downtown Toronto.

The company says that Toronto’s Dominion Bank wanted to show its support for Toronto Pride, a month-long Pride celebration that is among the largest in the world.

Toronto-Dominion Bank is a longstanding sponsor of the event and it wanted to install a large, circular rainbow graphic on the grounds of the courtyard near its headquarters. The bank says it wanted the installation to be cost-effective but also heavy-duty enough that it would be able to withstand five weeks of heavy foot traffic and outdoor weather conditions. The bank hired Toronto’s AIP Media, a full-service signage, graphics and design firm.

AIP devised a plan to design and print 36 rainbow-colored panels, 49” x 11.5’, that when installed would form the 48’ rainbow circle that Toronto-Dominion wanted.

AIP Media chose Mactac’s StreetTRAX outdoor floor graphics for the job. Mactac says that AIP Media owner Tony Iacobelli recommended StreetTRAX because it is textured, which eliminates the need for an overlaminate, resulting in a faster and more cost-effective installation. The finished graphics were created using an HP Latex 360 printer.

“StreetTRAX adhered extremely well to the courtyard surface and held up remarkably over five weeks,” Iacobelli says. “We even printed extra panels in case we needed to replace sections of the graphic due to wear, but we never had to use them—even after cleaning the graphic with soap and water.”

StreetTRAX is a 13.5-mil white PVC film that is top-coated with a non-skid printable clear aggregate and has an outdoor application life of up to two months.
