Hammons & Associates
Hammons & Associates have made more than 200 markers like this one for the Mississippi Blues Trail. This one happens to be in Chicago, which is where so many musicians from the Delta ended up.

Featured Project: Marking the Blues

This featured project comes to us from Greenwood, Mississippi, the hometown of Allan Hammons, who founded Hammons & Associates more than four decades ago.

Hammons started his career as an architectural illustrator but then expanding his repertoire by opening a full-service ad agency. Today, the agency has its fingers in a whole lot of pies, including sign making and even helping design and conceptualize the B.B. King Museum and Delta Interpretive Center and the GRAMMY Museum Mississippi, places visited by people from all over the world.

Hammons and his team have also been instrumental in developing the “Mississippi Blues Trail,” no doubt a project near and dear to his heart, having grown up in the Delta in the midst of the blues legends of the 20th century.

According to the Hammons & Associates website, “The Blues Trail is more than ‘blue markers.’ The trail’s concept is to blend the tourist experience with history and geography, while using outstanding design to educate. H&A has been responsible for the production of more than 200 markers on the Trail as well as the website, smartphone app, maps and other collateral pieces. The website has received almost four million page views from visitors from 180 countries since its beginning in 2010. H&A also produced a series of sixteen films about the Trail, one introductory video and fifteen that focused on specific artists or themes.”
