Sterling, Virginia-based Mvix, makers of digital signage, video walls and interactive displays, was contracted by the Bear Hill Rehabilitation & Nursing Center, a Boston-area long-term nursing care facility, to both modernize the older facility and establish stronger communications with visitors.
The facility did not have a traditional receptionist to answer questions from guests or guide them to where they needed to go in the facility. This was particularly a problem for first-time visitors, say representatives from Bear Hill.
Also, the marketing literature present in the lobby did not stand out and was often ignored, so the facility was losing money investing in flyers and brochures that no one was reading.
The facility’s owners contacted local firm Karen Ancas Design, when then brought Mvix in to provide the interactive digital signage software that would power the content for their new digital display. The goal was both to offer a map for visitors to the facility as well as providing additional information on Bear Hill’s amenities.
“Our staff hadn’t worked with digital signage technology before, but we were open to learning how to use the system and seeing how it compared to the ROI of our brochures and flyers,” says Jessie Maiuri, an administrative assistant at Bear Hill.
Working directly with David Flink, the Mvix project manager, Ancas curated interactive content that was functional and attractive. The content included wayfinding maps, staff directories, activity calendars, menus, photos, and animated announcements.
The facility’s administrative staff can schedule and update content from anywhere because of the software’s remote management capability.
“I was unfamiliar with the technology, but we got lots of hand-holding for the touchscreen arrangement,” says Ancas.
Bear Hill reported reduced wait times in the lobby as well as improved communication as a result of having several pieces of important content centralized in one location.
“The touch screen display brings modernity to an otherwise older looking building and it makes people feel good about coming in,” says Maiuri. “They bring a freshness to our lobby and is a perfect illustration of how digital signage can augment reception spaces.”
