Danville, Illinois-based LED sign maker Watchfire Signs announces that it is teaming up with a formal rival in the LED display business, YESCO, on a number of high-profile digital sign projects, including two digital high-resolution billboards in St. George, Utah.

YESCO recently selected Watchfire to manufacture two 16mm, 14’ x 48’ digital billboards located on Interstate 15 near the Dixie Convention Center in St. George. The billboards, installed in August and September 2017, feature ads from local businesses and are nearly sold out.

The two companies used to be direct competitors in the LED sign business but in 2015 YESCO sold off its electronic display manufacturing business. Now, YESCO says Watchfire is a key part of its strategy to become the premier electronic display integrator.

In addition to the two St. George billboards, YESCO enlisted Watchfire for a new display for Security National, a financial services company in Salt Lake City. The 12’6” x 21’6”, 16mm display delivers crisp, clear images in this high traffic location.

“As YESCO transitioned from manufacturing electronic displays to purely integration, we were excited to explore new options and our first move was to contact Watchfire Signs,” says Rod Wardle, vice president/electronics at YESCO. “Watchfire has a magnificent reputation for manufacturing highly reliable displays, and we have been really happy with the new relationship.”

Watchfire Signs and YESCO share a similar culture, according to Wardle: “YESCO is family-owned and Watchfire started as a family business. We both have employees with decades of tenure, so there’s good continuity in relationships and projects.”

Adds Darrin Friskney, vice president at Watchfire: “YESCO is one of the biggest names in the sign and lighting industry. There isn’t a better qualified and insightful LED display buyer. Their decision to buy from us is very flattering. Rod and I joked about how unlikely this partnership would have felt just a few years ago, but we’re delighted that they’ve put their trust in us for both the billboard and on-premise businesses. We’re looking forward to a long relationship with YESCO.”
