HP’s PVC-free Durable Smooth Wall Paper was recently chosen by officials with Liverpool, England’s Alder Hey Children’s Hospital to be used to produce custom wall murals for its new building.

The hospital had been in the same location for more than 100 years, and when a new building was purchased the clinical research facility operations manager, Amanda Rees, decided she wanted a less clinical environment for the children. She became aware of HP PVC-free Durable Smooth Wall Paper, which is certified environmentally safe for use in hospitals and other sensitive environments. It’s also Type II compliant for tough durability in a climate subject to intense wear and tear, such as a busy hospital.

The children themselves chose the images that would be used for the murals, all of them keeping with the theme of “nature.”

“The installation of the custom wall murals had to go on while the hospital was in use and we felt confident that this wallcovering was safe and odorless so as not to affect the patients during install,” says Rees.

Colour Create of Liverpool did the printing of the material on an HP Latex 360 Printer.

“From a printer’s point-of-view, HP PVC-free Durable Smooth Wall Paper prints like a dream,” says Barry Hodgson, director at Colour Create. “Our press man said it was one of the best products he’d ever printed on.”

According to a press release announcing the project: “The wall mural project at Alder Hey was a success for all involved: the hospital administration, the printer and installers, but most importantly, for the children of Alder Hey who now spend their time in a more uplifting, healthy environment intended to promote an attitude of healing optimism.”
