NanoLumens Hires Director of Software Services and Platforms

Atlanta-based NanoLumens, a maker of LED display products targeting a variety of markets including retail, digital out-of-home and sports venues, announces the hiring of renowned product development specialist Vishnu Rao as director of software services and platforms. He will report directly to NanoLumens’ chief technology officer, Gary Feather.

Rao comes to NanoLumens from Sharp Electronics, where he served in a number of leadership positions throughout the last 15 years. His focus has been on new product development for Smart TV platforms, strategic marketing for over-the-top services and

establishing technology and business partnerships. According to his new company, while at Sharp Rao played key roles in the strategy, planning and development of Sharp’s Smart TV and mobile platform. He was also responsible for bringing the world’s first remote-assist platform to consumer LCD TVs, allowing specialized agents to calibrate and personalize consumer displays over the Internet.

Most recently with his former company, Rao led the sales and marketing team on the development and launch of Sharp Roku and Google TV.

Rao holds numerous U.S. and global patents in user interface, connected platforms, big data and server technology.

NanoLumens says Rao’s hiring reflects the increasingly important role beacons and other interactive technologies will play in the next generation of visualization.

“The next generation of visualization is going to be as much about software services and platforms as it is about hardware,” Feather says. “We are honored to have Vishnu join our team. His nearly 20 years of experience in operationalizing large, embedded mobile and web service deployments that enable connected consumers and businesses is going to help us to achieve our long term goals and objectives in this critical area.”
