The power of wraps to attract attention to a commercial client is evident in this story from a magazine called Security Sales & Integration, which serves the home and commercial security market. The magazine annually hands out its SAMMY awards to companies in a variety of categories, such as Best Social Media Campaign, Best Sales Brochure and Best Promotional Giveaway Item.
A Somerset, Kentucky, company called Silent Guard was a 2018 SAMMY winner in the Best Vehicle Graphic Design category for a wrap on their fleet vehicles that features owners Dwight and Barbara Sears. The magazine quotes Dwight as saying that initially, he wasn’t sold on the idea of putting his and Barbara’s pictures on the vehicle, but since Barbara talked him into it, he tells the magazine, “We have friends and family throughout Kentucky and Tennessee that will send us messages saying they saw us in their area and then follow-up with a selfie standing next to one of our vehicles. People recognize us often. I’ll admit, it’s been one of the best things we’ve done. It’s definitely an icebreaker.”
New Horizon Graphics, also in Somerset, is a full-service sign, graphics, T-shirt and wraps shop that counts Silent Guard as a fleet client. Being located in southern Kentucky, not far from the Tennessee border, the shop doesn’t get much call for things such as color change wraps, according to owner Scott Kennedy. But it stays busy with the work it gets from commercial, government and nonprofit clients, he says.
New Horizon was founded in 1998 and added wraps about 10 years later, at the time working off an Océ Arizona, Kennedy says. Since then they’ve graduated to all Mimaki printers: a flatbed, a cut-and-print and a roll-to-roll they use mainly for wraps. Avery Dennison and Arlon are generally the company’s films of choice, he says.
“We’re the ‘where the rubber meets the road’ sign and graphics shop,” Kennedy says.
