Carlstadt, New Jersey-based Pantone, a provider of professional color standards for designers, unveils a color developed for comedian and late-night television host Conan O’Brien. The institute unveiled the shade, known as Team Coco Orange (158 C) in January.
The hue is a proprietary combination of yellow and red that forms a bright orange shade.
“Team Coco Orange elicits this whole feeling of spontaneity, (an) impish sense of impulsiveness, and a playful sense of fun,” says Laurie Pressman, vice president of Pantone Color Institute, in a recent video posted on the comedian’s YouTube page.
While the company has a history of mimicking pop culture icons through its color combinations, O’Brien, 158 C is the first color based on a comedian. For 2018 the company named Ultra Violet as the color of the year, citing musicians like Jimi Hendrix and David Bowie as inspiration. Similarly, in 2017, Pantone released Love Symbol #2, a purplish shade, as a tribute to Prince.
