Trotec Laser Buys Florida-Based Distributor Engraving Systems Support

Plymouth, Michigan-based laser engraving and cutting equipment maker Trotec Laser Inc. announces its intent to purchase Dade City, Florida-based Engraving Systems Support, better known as ESS. The closing of the deal is imminent, according to the two companies.

ESS was launched in 1983 as a service training and installations company, and it began distributing shortly after.

Trotec Laser began operations in the U.S. in 2002 and has grown more than 10-fold over the past six years, the company says. It expects to have another strong growth year in 2017, and the acquisition of what it calls “one of the largest and most successful distributors” is a key component of those growth plans.

“We are thrilled about the partnership with Buddy (Jones, president of ESS) and ESS, and the benefits it provides to our customers,” says Warren Knipple, Trotec Laser’s president. “It helps fuel our growth as a company and represents new opportunities to provide our customers with the highest-quality products, technical support and sales support. The ESS acquisition will help catapult Trotec’s growth and expansion, especially in the southeast region of the country.”

Over its history of three-plus decades, ESS has grown to offer a large array of laser and laser-related products, including engravers and router systems and related materials. Jones says his company has worked hard to earn the trust of its customers, which is why he is excited to begin working with Trotec Laser.

“We feel a great deal of responsibility to provide (customers) with equipment that will allow their business to produce the highest-quality products for their customers, and allow them to be as efficient as possible,” Jones says. “This sense of responsibility to our customers is exactly what drove us to make the decision to partner with Trotec Laser.

Trotec Laser says ESS will maintain its Dade City location as well as a satellite branch in Richmond, Virginia. Jones and another executive manager, David Baldwin, will become part of the Trotec team and will continue to support existing ESS customers as well as new Trotec customers.
